Folk Art Legend Louise Ortega
Carving is something that came naturally to Louise Ortega. Louisa and her brothers are well-known carvers of Santos. At age 14, Louisa began to carve wooden animals. She has produced a series of small cats, pigs and dogs. She drifts between religious subjects and folk arts. She is best known for her hand-carved wooden angels and birds. Her teenage son, Jonas also carves birds and angels.
