Folk Art Aviary
At El Nicho Folk Art Shop, art is for the birds! And what better way better to make your soul soar than the folk art aviary collection from Mary Agnes and Louise Ortega, daughters of legendary woodcarver Ben Ortega. The sisters carve their birds from local wood found in the New Mexico wilderness. Cottonwood, piñon, and cedar are transformed into these whimsical characters and are ready to delight your family!
Due to the tremendous popularity of these pieces, our folk art items sell very quickly and our inventory is constantly changing. While the exact carvings depicted on our website may no longer be available, similar items by the same artists are likely on hand.
